____________________________________

The day of Dhruv's arrival had finally arrived.

And both the Sharma and Khanna households were in complete chaos.

Not bad chaos.

Happy chaos.

The kind that filled every corner of a house with excitement, laughter, rushed footsteps, and endless preparations.

The Khannas were busy preparing for their eldest son to return after years.

The Sharmas were equally occupied, because Dhruv wasn't just Ranjeet and Sanvi's son.

He had practically grown up around them.

And then there was Tulip Sharma.

Who was operating on an entirely different level of excitement.

She floated around the house with a permanent smile on her face, helping Kavya with chores without a single complaint.

She folded clothes.

Helped set things in place.

Even carried groceries without arguing.

A miracle.

An actual miracle.

The kind that should have been reported to the government.

Even Shayan looked suspicious.

"Tu theek hai?" he had asked earlier in the morning.

(Are you okay?)

Because Tulip Sharma not arguing with him was genuinely concerning.

Now, after hours of waiting, she finally stood in front of her mirror.

Getting ready.

For him.

Her heart fluttered at the thought.

She wore a beautiful white ghaghra decorated with delicate silver embroidery along the hem. Tiny mirror-work details shimmered whenever light touched the fabric.

Paired with it was a short pastel pink kurti that reached her mid-thighs, adorned with intricate floral threadwork around the sleeves and neckline.

The soft colors made her look like spring itself.

Her long dark hair flowed freely down her back in soft waves.

A few strands framed her face perfectly.

Large silver jhumkas swung gently from her ears whenever she moved.

A stack of matching bangles adorned one wrist while a simple silver ring rested on her finger.

A tiny pink bindi completed the look.

She looked at herself one last time.

Then grinned.

A huge.

Excited.

Hopelessly-in-love grin.

The train was scheduled to arrive at exactly 2:30 PM.

And Tulip Sharma was going to be there.

At any cost.

She had already informed Trisha.

Informed her family.

Informed practically everyone.

Nobody dared argue.

Because once Tulip Sharma made up her mind...

Even God usually stepped aside.

Giving herself one final approving look in the mirror, she dramatically blew a flying kiss at her reflection.

"Beautiful," she whispered proudly.

Then grabbed her embroidered handbag, slung it over her shoulder, and marched downstairs.

"Muma mai jaa rhii hu station!" Tulip informed loudly while entering the kitchen.

(Mom, I'm going to the station!)

The moment she entered-

She froze.

"Oh God."

"Hatiye!" Kavya hissed at Pranav, who currently had his face buried in her neck while his arms remained securely wrapped around her waist.

(Get off!)

Tulip immediately covered her eyes.

Then uncovered them.

Then covered them again.

Pranav hurriedly stepped away from his wife.

An apologetic grin sat on his face.

Unfortunately...

It was also extremely naughty.

Which completely ruined the apology.

Kavya quickly adjusted her dupatta, smoothed her kurti, and rushed outside with slightly pink cheeks.

"H-haa beta, jaa. Wapas aate time dhruv ke sath hii aana. Humlog waise bhi khanna residence jayenge," Kavya said with a knowing smile.

(Yes, beta. Go. And when you come back, come back with Dhruv only. We are going to the Khanna residence anyway.)

Tulip rolled her eyes dramatically.

Not at the instruction.

At her mother's face.

Because somebody was blushing.

And it certainly wasn't her.

"Haa thik hai."

(Okay.)

She turned around.

Ready to leave.

Only to pause.

Because the second she turned-

Pranav had already wrapped his arms around Kavya's waist again.

Like a man who had absolutely no shame.

Tulip's jaw dropped.

Her eyes widened.

She looked between them several times.

Completely scandalized.

"Kya yaarrr! Khud ke baccho kii romance karne kii umar mein aap dono Lage pade ho!" she exclaimed dramatically.

(What is this yaar! Your children are at the age of doing romance, but you two are busy doing it yourselves!)

Kavya looked horrified.

Pranav looked amused.

"A-aree... choro na, tumhare papa to gadhe hai," Kavya muttered in embarrassment.

(Leave it. Your father is impossible.)

Pranav, meanwhile, remained entirely unapologetic.

In fact-

The grin on his face somehow got bigger.

Tulip looked at him.

Then at Kavya.

Then at him again.

"No hope," she declared.

Absolutely no hope.

"I was saying that i might be late," Tulip informed quickly.

Because honestly?

If she stayed any longer, her parents might start another romantic scene right in front of her.

And she valued her mental peace.

[A/n: Not Tulip's parents giving her an permanent trauma๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป]

Without waiting for a response, she hurried out of the house.

Her ghaghra swayed around her ankles.

Her jhumkas jingled softly.

And her smile refused to leave.

Because after four long years...

Dhruv Khanna was finally coming home.

Tulip was now walking through the busy auto stand of the city, her jhumkas swaying with every step.

The entire place buzzed with noise.

Auto drivers calling out for passengers.

Vendors selling snacks.

People rushing in different directions.

Yet none of it managed to distract Tulip.

Because today...

Dhruv was coming home.

Nothing else mattered.

Her eyes scanned the line of autos until she finally spotted an empty one.

"Uncle? Station chaloge?" Tulip asked politely.

(Uncle, will you take me to the railway station?)

"Haa didi, bilkul. Baitho," the driver replied immediately before quickly wiping the seat with a cloth.

(Yes sister, of course. Sit.)

Tulip smiled and climbed inside.

"Kitna hoga uncle?"

(How much, uncle?)

"40 rupiya didi."

(40 rupees, sister.)

Tulip nodded.

Just as she settled comfortably inside the auto-

A loud whistle echoed nearby.

Followed by laughter.

"Aree hum free mein le jayenge madam jii, humare sath chaliye!" one of the boys called from his bike.

(We'll take you for free, madam. Come with us.)

Tulip didn't even bother looking at them.

Today was too important.

She refused to let a few roadside idiots ruin her mood.

Unfortunately...

The idiots weren't done.

"Aree dekho dekho kaise ignore kar rahii hai, Itna bhii kya gussa hai!"

(Look at her ignoring us. Why so much attitude?)

Tulip slowly closed her eyes.

Counted to three.

Then stepped right out of the auto.

The smile disappeared.

"Abee haramkhor, ande ke chilke, sadee hue badam, sade hue aam ke pillu jada tej ban Raha hai huh?!"

(You useless nuisance, eggshell, rotten almond, worm from a rotten mango! Think you're acting too smart, huh?!)

The boys instantly stood up.

"What did you said?!"

"Ek baar mein sunayi naii deta? Kaanpur mein hadtal hai?" Tulip snapped back while crossing her arms.

(Can't hear properly in one go? Is there a strike happening in your ears?)

The surrounding drivers immediately began watching the drama.

The boys looked furious.

"Jada shani mat ban-"

(Don't act oversmart-)

Before he could finish-

Several auto drivers surrounded them.

"Ek to ladki chedta hai upar se tej banta hai, pakdo isse!" one of them shouted.

(First he harasses girls and then acts smart. Catch him!)

The boys immediately lost all their bravery.

Within seconds they turned around and ran.

Tulip cracked her knuckles.

"Aaj Mera mood accha hai, warna iske future bacche mar jaate!"

(My mood is good today, otherwise his future children would've been dead by now!)

The auto drivers burst out laughing.

"Aap aaiye didi, inlogo ka to roj ka hai," her driver said respectfully.

(Come, sister. These people do this every day.)

Tulip climbed back inside.

The auto finally started moving.

A comfortable silence settled for a few moments.

Then Tulip suddenly smiled.

A dreamy.

Hopelessly-in-love smile.

"Apko pata hai uncle? Aaj mere Dhruv wapas aa rahe hai, warna to saare dant tod deti mai us chapri ke!"

(You know uncle? My Dhruv is coming back today, otherwise I would've broken all those idiots' teeth.)

The driver smiled knowingly.

"Apne pati hai didi?"

(Is he your husband, sister?)

Tulip nearly combusted.

"Aree nahii nahii! Aise mat boliye, humein sharam aati hai!"

(No no! Don't say things like that, I get shy!)

The driver chuckled.

Tulip looked away, blushing furiously.

"Wo, hum unse behad prem karte hai. Chaar saal baad wo wapas aa rahe hai, foj mein hai na!"

(I love him very much. He's finally coming back after four years. He's in the Army.)

The driver's smile softened.

"Foji hai? Aap unke baare bolti hai to alag hii chamak dikh rahii hai."

(An Army officer? There's a completely different glow in your eyes whenever you talk about him.)

Tulip's smile widened instantly.

"Ho gii hii, akhir 10 saal kii umar se prem jo karte hai. Aapko bataun mai mere lovestory ke baare?"

(Of course there is. I've loved him since I was ten years old. Should I tell you about my love story?)

The driver nodded.

Big mistake.

Because Tulip Sharma needed absolutely no encouragement.

"Jab hum 10 saal ke the tab see hii wo bahutt acche lagte hai. Wo mere bhaiya ke bestfriend hai, ek din wo unko humare ghar leke aaye or hum to unko dekh ke hii pyar mein pad gayee lekin kabhi bata nahii paaye."

(I've liked him since I was ten years old. He's my brother's best friend. One day Bhaiya brought him home and I fell in love the moment I saw him, but I was never able to tell him.)

She sighed dramatically.

"Unhone utna dhayan nahii diya mere pe, kyuki foj join karni thii na. Or abhi wo finally 4 saal baad wapas aa rahe hai, is baar to apne dil ka izhaar kar hii dungi!"

(He never paid much attention to me because he wanted to join the Army. But now he's finally coming back after four years, and this time I'm definitely going to confess my feelings!)

The driver smiled.

Young love.

There was something beautiful about it.

---

Meanwhile...

At the railway station.

The entire Khanna family had arrived nearly an hour early.

Nobody trusted themselves to be on time today.

Especially Sanvi.

"Kab ayega Mera beta..." she whispered while gripping her saree pallu tightly.

(When will my son come?)

"Maa, dekho mai aa gaya!" Shaurya announced dramatically, placing his face directly in front of her.

(Mom, look, I'm here.)

"Hatt!"

Sanvi laughed before lightly slapping his shoulder.

Shaurya immediately pouted.

Ignored once again.

"Aa jayega devi jii, aap tension kyu leti ho-"

(He'll come, Devi Ji. Why are you worrying so much-)

Before Ranjeet could finish-

The loud horn of an approaching train echoed through the station.

Everyone froze.

Their hearts skipped a beat.

The train slowly rolled onto the platform.

Then stopped.

The doors opened.

Passengers began stepping out.

And then-

He appeared.

Dhruv Khanna.

Tall.

Broad-shouldered.

And impossibly handsome.

His olive-green Army uniform fit him perfectly.

The medals pinned neatly against his chest reflected sunlight.

His sleeves were rolled neatly.

His posture was straight.

Confident.

Disciplined.

Years of military service showed in every movement.

Yet despite the stern appearance...

The moment his eyes landed on his family-

His expression softened.

"Dhruv!"

Sanvi didn't wait another second.

She rushed forward and wrapped her arms around her son.

"Mera baccha!"

(My child!)

Dhruv immediately dropped his duffel bag.

Then hugged her tightly.

Years of strength.

Years of discipline.

Years of distance.

None of it stood a chance against a mother's embrace.

"Aree, ab roti kyu ho, aagaya na mai!" Dhruv teased gently while wiping her tears.

(Why are you crying? I'm back now.)

"Bhakk! Tu nahii janta kya beet tii hai iss najuk se dil mein jab tu koi mission mein rehta hai."

(You don't know what this fragile heart goes through whenever you're away on missions.)

"Kaha se chappa is line ko mumma?" Trisha teased.

(Where did you copy this line from, Mom?)

A slap immediately landed on her arm.

The entire family laughed.

"Mera Sher beta."

(My brave son.)

Ranjeet proudly patted Dhruv's shoulder.

Dhruv hugged his father tightly.

Then came the younger siblings.

"Bhaiya! Aapne apne pyare pyar bhai-behno ko yaad nahii kiya?"

(Brother! Didn't you miss your lovely siblings?)

"Pyare? Kon pyare?"

(Dear? Which dear ones?)

Dhruv looked around dramatically.

As if genuinely searching.

"Bhaiya!"

Both Trisha and Shaurya whined together.

Chuckling, Dhruv pulled them into a hug.

"Aajao, mere baccho."

(Come here, my children.)

"Eww."

"Cringe."

The siblings immediately complained.

Yet neither pulled away.

---

Back at the station entrance.

Tulip finally stepped out of the auto.

The driver accepted the money before smiling warmly.

"Tum dono ka prem Safal hoga. Mera ashirwad hai."

(Your love story will succeed. You have my blessings.)

Tulip's eyes immediately lit up.

Without hesitation, she bent down and touched his feet.

"Hayee, apke muh mein dahii shakkar!"

(May your words come true!)

The old driver laughed.

Tulip pinched his cheek affectionately before turning toward the station.

A huge smile rested on her lips.

Her heart raced wildly.

Her feet practically floated across the ground.

Because after four years...

She was finally about to see Dhruv Khanna again.

Tulip hurried through the crowded railway station, her white ghaghra swaying around her ankles as she practically ran through the platform. Her jhumkas bounced with every hurried step while her dupatta repeatedly slipped from her shoulder, but she paid no attention to it. Her heart had been restless since morning. Four years.

Four whole years.

And somehow she had managed to get late on the very day she was finally going to see him.

"Late ho gayii, late ho gayii, un chapriyon ke wajah se. Kamine sale!" she muttered under her breath, weaving through the crowd.

(I'm late, I'm late! Just because of those idiots! Damn them!)

Completely lost in her frustration, Tulip rounded a corner without looking ahead.

THAP!

She collided directly into someone.

The impact was strong enough to make her stumble backward. The person's duffel bag slipped from his hand and landed heavily on the ground.

"Suar ke pille! Mai hii milli apni is pathar si chati pitne ko? Ek to mere dhruv aa rahe hai, already late hu-"

(You piglet! Was I the only person available for you to crash into with this stone-like chest? My Dhruv is arriving and I'm already late-)

The rest of her words died on her tongue.

Slowly.

Very slowly.

She lifted her head.

And forgot how to breathe.

Her heart stopped.

Then immediately began beating so fast that she was certain everyone around her could hear it.

Standing in front of her was Dhruv Khanna.

Not the photograph hidden inside her favorite novel.

Not the face she had stared at every night before sleeping.

Not the voice she occasionally heard through phone calls meant for somebody else.

The real Dhruv Khanna.

Tall.

Broad-shouldered.

Dressed in his army uniform.

His sleeves were neatly folded, the badges on his uniform glinting beneath the station lights. Years in the army had sharpened his features, making him look older, stronger, and somehow even more handsome than the boy she remembered. His jaw was covered with light stubble, his posture straight and commanding, yet his dark eyes held the same familiar warmth she had fallen in love with years ago.

For a moment, neither of them spoke.

Dhruv stared at her.

Tulip stared back.

He immediately recognized her.

How could he not?

Tulip Sharma had always been impossible to ignore.

The little girl who used to trail behind Shayan.

The girl who could never sit quietly.

The girl who somehow managed to fill every room with noise, laughter, and chaos.

Except she wasn't a little girl anymore.

And that realization caught him completely off guard.

His eyes widened almost imperceptibly as he took in her appearance.

The soft white ghaghra.

The delicate jhumkas.

The blush spreading across her cheeks.

The way she looked at him as though he had personally descended from heaven.

Tulip's mouth opened.

Closed.

Opened again.

Nothing came out.

"Oh."

That was all she managed.

Then her eyes rolled back.

And before Dhruv could even process what was happening-

She fainted.

Straight into his arms.

For a second, Dhruv simply stood there, staring at the unconscious girl in disbelief.

A decorated army officer.

A man who had survived dangerous missions.

A man who had faced bullets without flinching.

Was currently panicking because one girl had looked at him and passed out.

"Tulip?"

No response.

"Tulip?"

Still nothing.

A faint pink color climbed up his ears.

"Damn it."

Carefully adjusting her in his arms, he picked her up and began walking toward his family.

He would never admit it aloud.

But somewhere beneath the concern...

A tiny smile threatened to appear.

Still carrying Tulip in his arms, Dhruv made his way toward his family. Even after years of military training and carrying equipment much heavier than a person, he found himself strangely aware of the girl resting against him.

Her jhumkas swayed softly with every step, a few loose strands of hair brushing against her cheeks as she remained unconscious.

Around them, curious passengers glanced their way, but Dhruv ignored every stare and continued walking.

The moment Sanvi spotted Tulip in her son's arms, her eyes widened with concern. She immediately hurried toward them, followed closely by Ranjeet, Trisha, and Shaurya.

"Aree, kya hua phool ko?" they asked worriedly.

(What happened to our flower?)

"Pata nahii, merese takra gayii or fir achanak behosh ho gayii," Dhruv replied, trying his best to sound normal.

(I don't know. She bumped into me and suddenly fainted.)

The slight pink tint creeping up his ears, however, completely betrayed him.

Sanvi gently pressed her palm against Tulip's forehead before checking her temperature. "Tabiyat to kharab Nhii hai."

(She doesn't seem sick.)

"Ho gayii hogi, bhaiya ko dekh ke," Trisha muttered under her breath.

(She probably fainted after seeing Bhaiya.)

The words were intentionally quiet.

Unfortunately for her, Dhruv's army-trained ears caught every single syllable.

His ears immediately turned even redder.

Beside her, Shaurya struggled to hide his laughter and ended up looking away entirely before he embarrassed himself.

Ranjeet shook his head before speaking up. "Isko gaadi mein leta de, ghar le chalte hai. Shayad hosh aa jaye."

(Lay her down in the car. Let's take her home. She might regain consciousness there.)

Dhruv nodded.

Carefully, he carried Tulip toward the car parked outside the station. The rest of the family walked ahead, giving him enough space to settle her comfortably in the backseat.

He bent slightly to place her down.

And froze.

A soft strand of her hair had become tangled around one of the buttons of his uniform.

Dhruv stared.

The hair.

Then the button.

Then the hair again.

Of course.

Of all things.

For a moment, he considered calling Trisha for help.

Then immediately rejected the idea.

His sister would never let him live.

Letting out a quiet sigh, he carefully reached for the strand and began untangling it himself.

His face ended up much closer to Tulip's than he intended.

Close enough to notice the tiny beauty mark near her cheek.

Close enough to notice how ridiculously long her eyelashes were.

Close enough to catch the faint fragrance of jasmine and roses surrounding her.

Dhruv swallowed.

His ears were now completely red.

Just as he finally managed to free the strand-

Tulip's eyelashes fluttered.

Then fluttered again.

Slowly, her eyes opened.

For a second she looked confused.

Then her gaze focused.

And landed directly on Dhruv.

Who was barely inches away.

Tulip's brain immediately stopped functioning.

Again.

The first thing she saw after waking up was Dhruv Khanna's face.

The second thing she noticed was just how unfairly handsome he had become.

The third thing she noticed-

He was looking directly at her.

Her soul nearly left her body for the second time that day.

Seeing her panic, Dhruv quickly reacted.

"Shh! Mai hu!" he whispered softly, placing his palm gently over her lips before she could make a sound.

(Shh! It's me.)

The world seemed to stop.

Tulip's eyes widened impossibly further.

If possible.

His hand.

Was on her lips.

His hand.

Was.

On.

Her.

Lips.

Inside her head, wedding bells had already started ringing.

Meanwhile, Dhruv was busy trying not to think about how unbelievably soft her lips felt beneath his palm.

Both of them were malfunctioning.

For completely different reasons.

Realizing what he was doing, Dhruv quickly removed his hand and finally untangled the stubborn strand of hair. Clearing his throat, he stepped back and exited the car before either of them embarrassed themselves further.

A few minutes later, the journey toward Khanna Residence finally began.

The car was filled with conversations, teasing, and excitement.

Yet somewhere in the middle of all that noise, another silent conversation was happening.

Every few minutes, Tulip would steal a glance toward Dhruv.

Only to find him already looking her way.

Then both would immediately look somewhere else.

Tulip's cheeks grew redder each time.

Dhruv cleared his throat so many times that even Shaurya began looking suspicious.

Neither of them spoke.

Neither of them needed to.

For Tulip, after four years of waiting, simply sitting in the same car as him felt enough to make her heart burst.

The Khanna Residence was louder than usual that evening.

Laughter echoed through the living room as both the Sharma and Khanna families sat together after years. Tea cups were scattered across the center table, snacks kept disappearing every few minutes, and every conversation somehow ended up revolving around Dhruv's return.

Everyone was happy.

Everyone was talking.

Everyone was celebrating.

Well...

Almost everyone.

Tulip Sharma was physically present in the living room.

Mentally?

Absolutely not.

Ever since the incident at the railway station, her brain had stopped functioning properly.

Every few minutes, her mind replayed the exact same scene.

Dhruv standing close.

Too close.

His hand over her lips.

His face inches away from hers.

The way he had whispered, "Shh! Mai hu."

And every single time the memory replayed, her ears turned red all over again.

At this point she wasn't even listening to the conversation anymore.

She was simply sitting there with a small smile on her face like someone who had completely lost touch with reality.

Meanwhile, the person responsible for her condition had disappeared upstairs to change out of his uniform.

The moment Dhruv went upstairs, Trisha decided it was the perfect opportunity to take revenge for all the years her brother had annoyed her.

So naturally...

She chose violence.

Holding an entire bottle of water in her hands, she stood beside a corner with an evil smile on her face.

A very suspicious smile.

A smile that should have come with a warning label.

"Bas bahar niklo bhaiya..." she whispered dramatically.

(Just come outside, Bhaiya...)

Unfortunately for everyone involved-

Fate had other plans.

At the same moment, Shayan had just finished an important work call in the garden.

After spending almost twenty minutes discussing blueprints and client requirements, he finally ended the call and started walking back toward the living room.

Completely unaware.

Completely innocent.

Completely doomed.

The second he turned the corner-

SPLASH!

An entire bottle of water landed directly on him.

For a moment, complete silence followed.

Shayan froze.

Trisha froze.

Even the bottle slipped from her hand.

Water dripped from his hair.

From his face.

From his shoulders.

From literally everywhere.

His white formal shirt had become completely soaked, clinging slightly to him after the unexpected attack. The sleeves were rolled neatly to his forearms, his black trousers perfectly pressed despite the disaster that had just occurred, and his usually neat hair now fell messily across his forehead.

The worst part?

He somehow still looked annoyingly good.

Like those movie heroes who walk in slow motion after getting drenched in the rain for absolutely no reason.

Trisha's brain immediately stopped working.

"I-i-i...i...i..."

Words abandoned her.

Entirely.

Not only had she attacked the wrong person...

She had attacked Shayan.

Shayan looked down at himself.

Then at the empty bottle.

Then at Trisha.

Then back at himself.

Finally he spoke in the saddest voice possible.

"Mai naha ke aaya tha."

(I had already taken a bath before coming.)

The sheer heartbreak in his voice nearly made Trisha cry.

"I...I am so sorry..." she whispered immediately.

Her eyes were already beginning to water.

"I-i mujhe laga bhaiya hai...aap...ao kaise-"

(I thought it was Bhaiya... how did you...)

Her voice trembled.

For a second, Shayan forgot about the water entirely.

He had expected her to laugh.

Or make excuses.

Or blame him somehow.

Instead she looked genuinely horrified.

Like she was seconds away from apologizing to his ancestors.

His expression immediately softened.

"Aree! It's okay baba, why are you crying?" he asked gently.

Without thinking, he reached forward and cupped her cheeks.

Everything stopped.

Absolutely everything.

Trisha's soul left her body.

Her brain blue-screened.

Her heart started performing dangerous stunts.

The man already looked unfairly handsome.

Now he was touching her face.

At this point she deserved compensation.

Meanwhile Shayan remained completely unaware of the emotional earthquake he had just caused.

"Aree! How did you got so wet?" Sanvi's voice suddenly echoed through the hallway.

Both of them jumped apart instantly.

Shayan removed his hands so quickly it looked suspicious.

Very suspicious.

For a brief moment, everyone stared.

"A-actually...i fell into the pool," Shayan said smoothly.

Not a single ounce of shame.

Not a single ounce of truth.

Sanvi looked confused.

"There isn't even a pool here."

For two seconds, nobody spoke.

Then Shayan simply nodded.

"Exactly."

And walked away before anyone could ask another question.

Sanvi stared after him.

Then shook her head.

"Bacche."

(Kids.)

The moment she left, Trisha slowly leaned back against the wall.

Her legs had completely given up on supporting her.

Her face was crimson.

Her heart was racing.

And somewhere down the hallway, Shayan was still walking away while casually fixing his wet shirt.

Meanwhile Trisha buried her face in her hands.

Because if this continued any longer-

She was definitely going to faint just like tulip did.
